Chapter Twelve – ♓️ PISCES – Curse of the Voidwalker
The liminal void is the eternal infinity between sleep and
awake, where the entire universe is observable in just one
glance, linear time ceases to exist and all knowledge is
knowable.
The dreams we experience when sleeping are part of the activity in the void and as
we pass back into awake, all the knowledge and memories fade. Voidwalkers are
those which can exist within that void to soothe the memories that would otherwise
turn dreams into eldritch nightmares.
The world sleeps now, oblivious to the horrors that lurk on the other side of closed
eyes. But Pisces-born Nyx Umbra, the Voidwalker, sees those creeping shadows. She
stands between your pleasant dreams and the waking nightmare that awaits, should
the veil ever fall.
The child thrashed in his sleep, small whimpers escaping his lips. Nyx knelt within
the shifting landscape of the young boy’s dream, the familiar bedroom warped by a
monstrous fear. Shadows, no longer bound to the bedside lamp or the comforting
shape of a stuffed bear, writhed and coalesced into figures with jagged teeth and eyes
that burned like embers.
Nyx had never been a warrior. Her weapon wasn’t a sword, but her own connection
to the ephemeral void between waking and dreams. Her touch upon the nightmare
figures was not a strike, but a subtle shift. The terror didn’t vanish, but its edges
softened. Grotesque teeth transformed into the familiar tangle of a messy ponytail,
those fiery eyes into the comforting glow of the nightlight the child favoured.
